Turtles

Sea turtles belong to a primitive species of reptiles. Having examined fossils, we know that they were contemporary with the dinosaurs and have lived on Earth for over 150 million years. We also know that they spend their time mostly in the open sea and that adult female sea turtles return instinctively to the beach where they hatched to nest their own eggs. However, nobody knows what happens to newborn sea turtles during the first years of their lives (aka: “the lost years”).

 

The most important area in the Mediterranean where Caretta Caretta lays her eggs is Lagana bay in Zante. There, in the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, Carreta carreta starts its long journey to survival and Vaggelis Papathanasiou, with the contribution of the personnel of the Marine Park, unfolds the tiring story of a life full of threads, even from the first breath…
